I created H.L.D.R to develop a product that harnesses GenAI for positive impact. I often found myself becoming overly reliant on tools that were diminishing my confidence and inducing imposter syndrome. It became increasingly difficult to tackle challenging problems without resorting to ChatGPT for solutions.
H.L.D.R was my solution to break this dependency — a tool that provides insights and suggestions without doing the work for you.
Technical Drawbacks
While H.L.D.R successfully demonstrates the core concept, the current implementation reveals several significant limitations:
- Command-line interface may be intimidating for beginners
- Reliant on GitHub Codespaces, limiting accessibility
- No seamless integration into popular IDEs
- Insights only generated on file save, missing real-time feedback
What's Next
These limitations led directly to the development of HLDR v2 — a dedicated VSCode extension that integrates directly into the editor with a side panel for insights, inline feedback, and customizable triggers.
